Project Overview
Scrap System
The first air system collects bright aluminium trim scrap from 6 trimmers and 1 cupping press. The system has been designed with extra capacity for a future 4 trimmers. The material collected is conveyed to the front-end scrap separator, which feeds into the baler via a weigh hopper system to accurately weigh the scrap and create consistent bale sizes.
The second air system collects whole can scrap from around the plant and only runs when required. There are four whole-can scrap sweep-up points in the trimmer area, decorator area, necker/ flanger and baler room. This system will convey scrap to the whole can scrap separator feeding into the compactor again via a weigh hopper system, including a bypass to the floor. Initially, there will be a bypass baler, and the scrap will feed to the floor. Provision has been made for a bypass baler to be installed at a later date.
The fans, air separators and weigh hoppers are arranged on top of a mezzanine platform and are all designed by integratedAIR Systems.

Air filtration
The exhaust air from both conveying systems is filtered, and line scrap air goes through one of our mist eliminator units with clean air exhausting to atmosphere. The whole can system air is filtered through a bag filter system with a summer/winter divert so that air can be exhausted to atmosphere in the summer months and diverted back inside during winter months to help heat the plant.
Ink Mist
A new main header duct for the ink mist exhaust is positioned at a high level just to one side of the machine. Into this, eight flexible connectors run from the supplied inker hoods.
The main header duct runs down towards the end of the machine and then turn upwards to connect into a new two-stage ink mist filter unit mounted on the mezzanine in this area.
Over-Varnish Mist
The exhaust hoods connect by separate pipework systems to a pre-separation drum positioned by the side of the decorator; inside, any liquid that is extracted with the fume is collected. A single exhaust connection runs on from the drum to a filter and fan assembly positioned above the mezzanine area.
The filter and fan assembly are mounted on a common chassis shared with the ink mist extraction system and secured to the mezzanine floor. As with the ink mist filter, this filter includes both primary and secondary stages with a differential pressure gauge connected across these to indicate when the elements in this need replacing. The fan generates a very high vacuum in the pre-separation drum to ensure sufficient exhaust from the machine and movement of any entrained liquid through the pipework connections into the drum.
