How Do Industrial HVAC Control Systems Work?

Industrial HVAC systems can be used in any facility that needs warmer, cooler, improved or changed air flow.

Typically, we mount one or more Air Handling Units (AHU) at an elevated position within a facility. These ventilation units, coupled with a ducting system, process the air and distribute it to air vents strategically positioned throughout the facility. An additional benefit of this balanced system is maintaining positive pressure within the building envelope, reducing the risk of outside airflow contaminating your facility.

We also offer industrial roof exhaust fans, which can be coupled with an air input system, providing an effective solution for cooling during summer and other airflow problems.

If your workplace suffers from a more extreme heat build-up, we can provide evaporative and direct expansion (DX– Refrigerant) air cooling systems to rapidly cool hot air, ensuring the maximum level of safety and comfort for your employees.

Make-up Air

It’s important to maintain a comfortable and safe atmosphere, as this helps with the maintenance of production machinery and the wellbeing and safety of workers. Many ventilation systems are automatically operated and governed by low-temperature sensors. The more complex make-up air system operates in line with the different exhausts emitted in your factory.

Signals from the various processes dictate the running parameters, so the system is activated when process exhausts stop and start - this will continuously adapt to maintain the same overpressure.

integratedAIR Systems can install water-to-air heating coils within the air stream, which allows the hot water from the energy recovery to pre-heat the make-up air in the colder months, so your system can run all year long.

Ventilation

During the summer, heat cannot be dispersed from a plant or factory as it can be during the winter. Temperatures can rise due to production lines generating heat, often in excess of a comfortable working environment.

Our industrial ventilation systems remove hot air and circulate cooler air at a lower level, causing temperatures to lower. We can design systems that reuse unwanted heat from one area to warm other sections of the building, helping to potentially lower separate heating and cooling system costs, whilst increasing energy efficiency.

Spot Cooling

Spot cooling is an ideal substitute for air conditioning, as it enables you to target specific areas for heating and cooling. Each spot cooling system is installed using a locally ducted evaporator coil and piped to outside VFD condensers, typically placed on the roof. In the summer, temperatures within production facilities can rise to uncomfortable levels.

Spot cooling allows colder air to be directed to operator areas, ensuring the work environment maintains a safe temperature for employees. Where necessary, this process can be reversed to warm work areas during the winter.

Heating

Factory spaces may require heating at certain points of the year due to the changes in the external climate or alterations to production processes. Summer/winter diverters ensure your facility can maintain an even temperature throughout the year by contributing hot or cold air where appropriate. This helps to set a specific temperature which is monitored and automatically adjusted by the system.

Our team can also design systems to disperse the heat created from machine processes to other areas of the facility, which ensures the efficient recovery of energy in the form of heat and minimal costs from external heating methods.

What Is the Energy Efficiency of an AHU?

Energy efficiency is the primary goal of an air handling unit, and the European Ecodesign Regulation 1235/2014 has made it compulsory since 2016. By having heat recovery units, the AHU lowers the amount of energy needed for air conditioning; since the exchanger mixes internal and outdoor air, the temperature contrast is lower when the air reaches the coil and therefore lowers both the climatic contribution and energy consumption. The fans can operate at the required flow rate due to the equipment's variable regulation, reducing consumption.

The three main differences between commercial and industrial HVAC systems are:

  • Capacity: Industrial HVAC systems are typically designed for much larger facilities compared to commercial spaces.
